Overview

Dinah Taylor has an orderly life that is just how she likes it. A perfectly furnished luxury apartment, a satisfying career as a scientist and CEO of her own company, and an uncomplicated personal life. But all of that changes when she meets seven-year-old Jonah.

The boy shows up one day, a scruffy dog by his side, in front of her office building. Dinah knows nothing about kids and even less about animals, but after she buys him breakfast, he shows up the next day...and the next. She tries to learn more about him, to help him, but he's remarkably skilled at evading her questions. And then, late one night, he calls her in a panic-his dog has been badly injured. Dinah rushes them to a local animal clinic, where she meets Garret, a veterinarian with a thriving practice and a passion for drawing. Though Jonah takes to Garret right away, for some reason neither understands, Dinah and Garret just don't mesh. But for Jonah's sake, their lives continue to collide, and slowly the relationship between these three strangers begins to change.

Publishers Weekly

Snelling is a consistent bestseller with her popular novels like One Perfect Day, and her newest contemporary romance will likely be no exception. Food for Life CEO Dr. Dinah Taylor can’t help talking to the little boy sitting patiently in the rain with his dog, waiting to walk to school. One breakfast turns into another and another, until a late-night call sends Dinah to the rescue of young Jonah and his injured dog, and puts them both in the path of veterinarian Dr. Garret Miller. Garret and Jonah hit it off, but the same can’t be said for Dinah and the vet until Jonah’s world comes crashing down and the two must find a way to care for the child. Dinah faces conflict in her professional world when a company product launch is threatened, struggles with her past, and her new role in Jonah’s life, while Dr. G faces his own past and prejudices. The tale of a boy in the rain and the two adults who come to love him will soften the hardest hearts. Agent: Wendy Lawton, Books & Such Literary Management. (July)
