Overview

Caught between worlds: hearing and deaf, Shawnee and settler, wilderness and civilization, master and slave, the Meunier family's lives trace a line through the honorable and the profane of American history and all the muddled mess between. American Providence offers a rare glimpse into colonial Kentucky as a microcosm of the emerging nation and the blood-soaked soil it was built on as well as the traditions of honor, compassion, and stewardship inherent to the better angels of our nature. Part historical accurate representation, part frontier adventure, and part philosophic contemplation, the narrative weaves a blanket of life, guiding the reader through fated perdition to the promise of providence.
