Overview

"This book is a celebration of one person's collection of sermons, meditations, and passion-filled interpretations of Judeo-Christian scriptures, the Holy Bible. Penned in a unique and reflective voice with bible verses translated into English, Spanish, and Greek, this soul-searching anthology beckons a large Christian community.

Words have power, and, in his writings, they come from the heart. They're filled with love and a desire to help future generations. Oscar reinforces his messages by example.

The author's cross-cultural heritage makes him compassionate, inclusive, and open-minded to differing world views and diversity. He knows that humanity is a giant tapestry composed of different cultures and ways of life.

If we are to be like Jesus, which is what this book and his life's work is about, we must accept and love all sentient beings knowing that every thread, every soul, and every creature in that tapestry contributes to the greater whole. His May 24th entry emphasizes this point beautifully: "God distributes gifts according to the needs of the church and community for mutual benefit."

Two ideals set the tone for this singular book; the author's unwavering desire to live and set an example for the higher good of all and the belief that by embodying timeless Christ-conscious truths, we create a peaceful, harmonious, and thriving global community.

About the Author

"Pastor Oscar was born in Ecuador and emigrated to the United States at age 10.

Neither a Christian nor a leader, for most of his life, Oscar worked as a Pension Administrator and saw an opportunity to acquire quick wealth in real estate. But, in 1987, real estate took a nose-dive and with it, all his dreams, hopes, and savings. He was emotionally and spiritually bankrupt! Anxiety led to months of sleepless nights.

The Father of Lies made Oscar believe he was a lousy provider, useless as a husband, father, employee, and investor. He pointed to his half-million-dollar life insurance policy as the honorable answer to debt. The M*A*S*H theme song and its soothing refrain, “suicide is painless,” kept buzzing around his head.

He almost acted on the lie, believing everyone would be better off without him, but God had better plans!
In February 1989, a friend invited Oscar to a three-day spiritual retreat where he experienced an intimate, personal, and transforming encounter with Jesus (you can read the full story in the Closing Remarks at the end of the book). On Saturday, February 25, during an evening prayer chapel, he realized that God and his family loved him despite his faults and failures, and he began accepting and loving himself as he was.

Immediately, Oscar became an active Bible study participant and volunteer with the Children’s choir. He created a bible study group in his office, meeting weekly for study and prayer. In 1991 and 1993, Oscar went on missions to Nagarote, Nicaragua, and Ecuador. As a result, he reconnected with the Hispanic culture and began to work in Norwalk, CT with El Camino United Methodist Church (UMC). He was a counselor for the Billy Graham Evangelical Association in the 1994 New York Central Park campaign. While on a 2004 mission in Bolivia, God called Oscar to become a local pastor, serving the Hispanic communities in Norwalk and Bridgeport, CT.

In October 2010, after 35 years of service, Oscar retired from Diversified Investment Advisors as Vice President of Spanish Services / Compliance to dedicate more time to church, community, and missions. In 2017, Pastor Oscar retired from the UMC to dedicate more time to family. He writes daily bible meditations in English and Spanish on social media and enjoys racquetball, bicycling, music, and chess.

Family: Pastor Oscar is married to Margarita. God has blessed them with two children and three lovely grandchildren.
