Overview

The Great Gatsby is a story created in the period 1925 and its genre is about tragedy, realism, modernism, and social satire.

It shows the impossibility of getting back the past and the sheer difficulty of altering the future.

Jay Gatsby, the main character, is shrouded in mystery as to his beginnings and yet his current wealthy circumstances make him a prime target for anyone who would love to be a part of his world.

The story is narrated by Nick Carraway. As he narrates the story, he finds himself becoming entangled in Jay's world.

The reader will find out that Jay's burning desire is Daisy, Nick's cousin, the girl he was once in love with when he was younger. However, Daisy's husband, a brute of a man, Tom, does his very best to upset Jay's 'apple cart' dreams.
